Posted on Nov 29, 2011
Last Friday night at around 10:30, a pedestrian was struck down by a hit-and-run driver in Oak Lawn. The middle-aged pedestrian was killed and the driver sped away without stopping to render aid. The victim – believed now to be “Joe” Edward Lee King – was crossing the street in the 4100 block of Cedar Springs Road at a crosswalk when the suspect hit him and then continued to make a left turn on Throckmorton Street.
The police are currently searching for the suspect who they believe was driving a Land Rover or Range Rover SUV with wraparound tail lights. If you have any information regarding this vehicle or the crash, please contact the crimes detectives at (214) 670-5817 immediately. The victim’s friends and family have also appealed to the unknown suspect, asking him or her to come forward.
This is the second fatal hit-and-run in Oak Lawn in three weeks. On November 3, 55 year-old Wayne Priest lost his life at an intersection three blocks away from where the recent crash occurred. Police still have not found the suspect in Priest’s case. They believe he was killed by a 4-door maroon vehicle at about 9 p.m. Police say they will “review” the potential dangers in the lighting and crosswalks along Cedar Springs.
