Five Children Allege Sexual Abuse At Unlicensed Texas Daycare
Posted on Jul 30, 2011
After a man was arrested for alleged sexual abuse at an at-home daycare in D’Hanis, Texas, local authorities are asking other families to come forward that sent their children to the daycare over the last five years.
Earlier this year, 66-year-old Agapito Contreras was arrested for the sexual assault of a minor. His wife, Sophie, ran an unlicensed in-home daycare from their trailer and took up to five or six children under her care at a time. It is unknown how many children may have been abused or even how many children were in the home during its illegal operation.
Now, authorities like Constable Stephen Duffy are working with the community to spread awareness and investigate whether other children were also sexually abused in the community. So far, five other children have come forward with tales of abuse involving Contreras. Duffy expects that even more children may have been affected. A flyer campaign in the small town has helped inform citizens to the abuse and urged those who used the daycare to come forward.
Contreras has been jailed with his bond set at $150,000. His wife is under investigation by Child Protective Services and her illegal and unlicensed daycare has been closed.
