Hidden Recorder Reveals Shocking Verbal Abuse At Dallas Daycare
Posted on Nov 29, 2010
A Dallas mother hid a small recorder in her toddler’s diaper bag before he headed off to a publically funded Texas daycare – and what the recorder caught on tape may shock parents throughout the tape.
According to a FOX affiliate in Dallas-Fort Worth, mother Wendy Anderson had a bad feeling about the day care center that she placed her two-year-old son Anthony in just weeks before. She acted on her intuition and hid a small recorder in a diaper bag one day to see how the children were treated after she left. Though the recorder only caught an hour of day care activity, that was plenty. As soon as Anderson left, one day care staff, Kathryn Trunnell-Davis, can be heard verbally abusing a child for soiling his diaper. At another point, the same woman yells at a child and tell him he needs a beating.
Finally, another female staffer is heard threatening to break a child’s thumb or throw the child out a window if they don’t shut up. Anderson said she listened to just a few minutes of the tape before picking up the phone and dialing Child Protective Services. However, the response was lackluster despite the fact that an investigation revealed that Trunnell-Davis does not run a licensed day care center and is not regularly inspected.
Anderson is angry and disappointed that her son was so mistreated in his day care center – especially at an Early Head Start program that is sustained through tax dollars and that keeps her family off of welfare.
