Houston Toddler Given Overdose Of Drugs At Daycare

On Tuesday, November 2, a toddler was rushed to a hospital in Houston after overdosing on prescription drugs administered at the child’s daycare.
Texas state investigators and Texas Child Care Licensing say that the daycare incident took place at Righteous Daycare Learning Center, owned by Abdur Adesokan. Allegedly, one of the teachers at the school gave a baby an overdose of a drug given to the teacher by the child’s parents. The medicine was crushed and in a bottle when it was given to the teacher, and it is unclear how the teacher administered the overdose or was told the correct amount. Adesokan stressed that the overdose was not intention and was in fact a complete accident.
The teacher that made the medication mistake has been fired. The baby has been upgraded to fair condition and is now conscious. In addition, the baby has stable vital signs and is expected to recover.
A spokesperson from Texas Child Care Licensing said that while child care centers are allowed to give medicine to children with a parent’s permission, but that there are very specific and strict rules for how drugs can be administered.
Righteous Daycare Learning Center was licensed just months ago and has already been at the center of 82 different violations. One violation involved the center not having running water, while other day care violations involved allegations of shouting at children. Investigators and state regulators will decide on a plan of action this week. While the daycare stands to lose its license or get shut down completely, it could also receive a more mild punishment that would involve a safety plan.
