Huntsville Daycare Worker Charged With Injuring Infant

Posted on Jun 18, 2011

A Texas daycare worker has been arrested after admitting to injuring an infant under her care.

According to local news sources, a daycare worker in Huntsville, Texas, has been charged with injury to a child, a third-degree felony. While the worker, 29-year-old Allison Ross, at first told the parents of the 10-month-old baby that the child must have had an allergic reaction or popped a blood vessels while crying, she later confessed that she had harmed the child and covered its face with a towel in order to quiet it.

While the mother and baby have not been identified, the child’s grandmother, Lisa Yarborough, spoke to reporters about the incident. She shared that the child had been at the daycare, Huntsville’s Taking Care of Kids child care, for only three days before the daycare abuse incident took place. While the mother of the child was told that the child’s appearance was not an issue, she immediately brought her child to the hospital for treatment. There, at Huntsville Memorial Hospital, she learned that her child had suffered bruising to its head, neck, and chest – and that it appeared that the child had been suffocated by someone’s hand.

After meeting with the Huntsville Police department, Ross admitted she had injured the child. The day care center is cooperating with police, and Ross has been release from jail on a $2,500 bond.
