Port Arthur Patient Sues Doctor For Texas Medical Malpractice
Posted on Jan 13, 2011
A Texas doctor is facing his second medical malpractice lawsuit in three years.
In the most recent medical error lawsuit, which was filed in Jefferson County this week, Port Arthur woman Hattie Griggie has alleged that Doctor Joseph Badlissi violated the standard of care when he treated her at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in October of 2008. Griggie, who does not provide a detailed account of the medical mistake or negligence, is seeking damages for mental anguish, impairment, and her medical expenses. While the lawsuit does not cover what ailment Griggie suffered from or what treatment Dr. Badlissi provided, it does state that the evidence provided in court will prove that the doctor was negligent in his care.
The court case will be heard by Judge Robert Wortham.
Just three years ago, Dr. Badlissi went to court regarding another medical malpractice lawsuit, though a Jefferson County jury unanimously decided that the doctor did not act negligently.
In that case, which took place in 2007, the family of Texas resident Trinidad Dovalina claimed that Badlissi had not properly used restraints on their mother and, in addition, over drugged the woman in the wake of a surgery at Park Place Medical Center. Dovalina, heavily sedated but not restrained, fell out of her hospital bed in 2002 and fractured her hip. According to the medical malpractice lawsuit, Badlissi should have placed restraints on the woman and prevented her fall and subsequent injury. The jury, after discussing the case for less than an hour, disagreed.
