Rain And Speed To Blame In Plano Teen’s Car Accident Death

Posted on Jul 21, 2010

Wet roads can be dangerous for any driver, but in a Dallas car accident that took place last week, slick conditions were especially hazardous for an inexperienced driver.

According to the Dallas News, 16-year-old Alexandria Hays was driving on the Sam Rayburn Tollway in The Colony during a heavy downpour when she lost control of her car, ran into the median, and hit a sign with her VW Jetta. Hays was taken to Parkland hospital with serious injuries while her friend and passenger, 16-year-old Nicole LeGrow, was killed in the Texas car accident. Both girls attended Jasper High, and LeGrow was a member of the soccer team.

The girls were headed to a lake party in a group of several other cars – and many witnesses say that they sped past others at the moment they lost control and went airborne. The Department of Public Safety says that they have footage of the car accident occurring and that the speed of the car could lead to a charge of negligent homicide in the future.

Texas Police investigating the fatal car accident said that the two Plano teens were driving faster than the 70-miles-per-hour speed limit and certainly too fast for the rainy conditions that they were in. Friends and neighbors agreed that driver inexperience was the major cause of the crash.

The Sam Rayburn Tollway was closed for two hours in the wake of the Plano crash, which occurred at 3 PM on Friday, July 9.
