Round Rock Daycare Provider Sentenced To 20 Year For Abuse

A Texas daycare abuse trial came to an end in Williamson County this week – and the defendant was found guilty and sentenced to two decades in jail for reckless injury to a child, a second-degree felony. The mother of the boy said that while she is glad that the man received the maximum sentence, she will now pursue a personal injury civil lawsuit against the man for medical costs and pain and suffering.
According to court records, Round Rock resident Scott Patrick Hudson was convicted of plunging the hands of a three-year-old boy into scalding hot water, seriously burning the boy’s hands.
The child was rushed to Dell Children’s Medical Center, where he was treated for second and third degree burns on his wrists and hands. Even a year later, the boy is receiving ongoing treatment at the Shriner Burn Hospital in Galveston, where the boy is dealing with scar tissue, disfigurement, and hand mobility issues.
In 2009, Hudson and his wife opened an in-home childcare operation – though they were not licensed to do so. They cared for an average of eight children for several months before this incident took place. The child, Jared Epstein, had filled a sink with water without permission from Hudson, and Hudson punished the boy by sticking the child’s hands in hot water. When Epstein’s mother arrived to pick him up at the end of the day, she said that his hands looked like melted wax.
