Posted on Nov 17, 2011
Bryany Ruth Hildreth while suspected to be under the influence of alcohol crashed her SUV into bicyclist Anthony Jamal Miles on Sunday night in Euless, Texas. Miles, only 24 years-old, was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in critical condition. Only today was he identified by the authorities who had to distribute a photo of him in the hospital as he has been unable to communicate himself. Despite groups like MADD and government regulations, drunk driving continues to be a problem. Driving under the influence is extremely dangerous and results in 2009, 10,839 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third (32%) of all traffic-related deaths in the United States that year.
Other drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists should be as prepared as possible. Bicyclists should remember to wear appropriate night and safety gear.
