Texas A&M Lineman Killed in Car Accident Avoiding Road Kill

Texas A&M back-up offensive lineman Joe Villavisencio was killed in an 18-wheeler truck accident in Jacksonville, Texas, this week as he was visiting family over the winter break and holiday season.
According to the Bryan-College Station Eagle, the senior college student was driving northbound on FM 39 on Thursday at five in the evening when he swerved his car to avoid what may have been a buzzard in the road. His vehicle veered into the path of a southbound tractor-trailer, which struck the 22-year-old head-on. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Earlier that day, Villavisencio had helped his teammates distribute Christmas gifts to families in need in Bryan. He played in two games at Texas A&M last season.
The Texas Department of Public Safety was examining evidence from the crash site and compiling a complete accident report in the days after the fatal Jacksonville wreck.
Former Texas A&M head football coach Mike Sherman released a statement in conjunction with the school voicing his grief and adding that the young man was “an honor and a privilege to coach.”
