Texas City Woman Suffers Neck Injuries In Alleged Drunk Driving Accident
Posted on Nov 23, 2011
A Texas City resident is suing a driver who she claims was drunk behind the wheel at the time of a rear-end accident that left her with serious back and neck injuries.
Raquel Edwards is seeking $5 million in damages from driver Joe Stanfield for pain and suffering, physical impairment, physical disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of consortium, loss of mental function and loss of household services.
The Texas car accident took place in September of this year, when Stanfield slammed into the back of Edwards' vehicle, causing her serious injury. Edwards claims that Stanfield was aware of his impairment and of the risk involved with driving in that condition; in addition, he failed to keep a proper lookout, avoid a collision, maintain proper distance, properly use his brakes, or properly change lanes.
It is unclear if Stanfield was charged with a DUI after the wreck or whether he was convicted of driving while intoxicated in connection with the crash. The extent of Edwards' neck injuries and back injuries is also unknown.
The Texas personal injury case will be heard in a Galveston County court by Judge Christopher Dupuy.
