Texas Family Alleges Nursing Home Neglect after Resident Death
Posted on Nov 24, 2011
A Texas nursing home is being investigated after its inaction caused a man's death three weeks after another resident assaulted him.
According to Amarillo news sources, 81-year-old Bill West was a resident at Sky West Assisted Living Center in Canyon, Texas. In July, West was struck in the face multiple times by another resident and suffered a broken jaw, eye socket, and cheekbone. Despite his serious injuries, nursing home staff did not seek professional medical care for the man for two days, when West's children saw his condition and called an ambulance.
West was transported to a hospital, where he contracted pneumonia due to his injuries and died 20 days after the incident. His death, which was ruled a homicide, is being investigated by police. Both West's family and authorities believe that Texas nursing home negligence may have played a significant role in both the assault and the lack of medical care that followed. In addition, the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services cited the living center in relation to the senior death.
The nursing home neglect attorneys at Rasansky Law Firm send their deepest condolences to the Bill West's loved ones, including his wife and children.
