Texas Man Sentenced To 25 Years For Daycare Sexual Assault
Posted on Jan 31, 2011
After two families came forward with allegations of sexual abuse in an in-home daycare, Texas Police arrested the 40-year-old son of the daycare provider.
According to the Seguin Gazette, John John Rangel has been sentenced to 25 years in Texas prison without the chance for early parole. The sentencing came after a plea bargain in which Rangel pleaded guilty to the continuous sexual abuse of a child and in which the two toddlers in question were not made to testify or relive their horrors.
Court files show that the sexual abuse took place at Stella Rangel's in-home day care business in Seguin, Texas, when Stella was out of the home running errands. In May 2010, the first allegation of daycare abuse surfaced after the mother of one of the young girls said that her daughter had been mimicking sexual acts – and that the child had explained that John John had done the acts to her. Soon after, another family came forward with a similar story. The first child then recreated the abuse with the help of two dolls while being observed by a sexual assault nurse.
Rangel at first agreed to take a lie detector test regarding the daycare sexual assault incidents, but refused to go through with the polygraph on the day of the test. Shortly after, he requested an attorney.
Both families of the sexual abuse victims say they are relieved that the man will spend the next two and a half decades in jail -- and that their young children will not have to testify in court.
