Texas Officials Shut Down Three Unlicensed Nursing Homes

Posted on Jul 31, 2011

Three nursing homes in the San Antonio area have been shut down by Texas authorities after officials discovered the assisted living facilities were operating without a license.

The homes, which were located in Cibolo, Selma and San Antonio, operated under the names Elderly Care San Antonio and TLC In-Home Care. They were allegedly run by Ninfa Alba and couple Gary and Linda Leal, who now have temporary restraining orders against the properties.

Texas Attorney General's office explained that the website for the three nursing homes assisted living for the elderly, specialized care for those with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and an environment “unlike a nursing home.” Inside the illegal assisted living facilities, officials found that too many people were being provided with food, care, and medications than is legal under Texas law. More specifically, the owners of the facilities are believed to have violated the Texas Health and Safety Code and Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.

The residents of the three unlicensed nursing homes have been relocated to valid assisted living facilities in the area. The website for Elderly Care San Antonio has been taken offline. The condition of the residents – and the quality of the care they received at the nursing home – is not yet known.
