Texas Personal Injury Attorney | Drowning Deaths Remind us Of Pool Dangers
Posted on Jul 14, 2011
A Northwest Dallas community is grieving after the tragic drowning deaths of a grandfather and his grandson.
Sixty-eight-year-old Rolando Pacheco and 2-year-old Ethan Pacheco were found unresponsive in Rolando's backyard pool by Ethan's father. The father promptly called 911, but it was too late for paramedics to save their lives. They were pronounced dead at Dallas Methodist. Since nobody else had been at the home, it's unclear at this time how long the victims had been in the pool.
According to neighbors, it was normal for Rolando to be watching after his grandson. A longtime friend of the family, Alfredo Rocha was quoted as saying Ethan was Rolando's "life".
As friends and family members rally in support of the Pacheco's and to pay respect to their loved ones, we are reminded once again of the dangerous combination of toddlers and swimming pools. While the causes of this heartbreaking accident are not readily apparent, it is not out of the realm of possibility that age and heat could have been factors.
It is important to not only be mindful of water safety, but also the extreme heat facing North Texans. Prolonged exposure to triple digit temperatures can cause a myriad of severe health issues, more so in the elderly and our young ones. Many of these health issues can affect a person's ability to stay safe around water, especially when tasked with watching after a child.
With no break in the summer heat in sight, North Texans will continue flocking to pools and lakes for relief, and with that, an increased need in safety precautions to protect against heat and water dangers. The family here at the Rasansky Law Firm will keep the Pacheco's in our thoughts and prayers as they mourn their loss.
