Tractor-Trailer Stolen, Crashed On Highway 175 In Dallas County

Posted on Aug 26, 2011

Highway 175 in Balch Springs, Texas, was closed for hours on last Tuesday night when an unknown suspect stole a big rig carrying steel rebar and soon after crashed the truck. Dallas Police are still looking for the suspect, who ran from the scene of the crime.

According to local news sources, it is not clear where the 18-wheeler carrying steel spikes was when it was stolen or who initially took the vehicle, though they know that the suspect was headed northbound on Interstate 20 when they exited on to Highway 175 east. The driver then lost control of the truck, crossed all lanes of the highway, and slammed into the side of the middle median. After running along the concrete wall, the cab of the truck burst into flames and came to a stop, scattering the steel beams across the road and causing multiple car accidents and extensive property damage.

Dallas Fire fighters arrived on the scene, unsure of whether the driver of the vehicle was trapped inside during the truck fire. However, when the vehicle fire was extinguished, it became clear that the suspect had fled from the scene of the crime.

The person who stole the truck and caused the accident is still on the run. No one is known to have been seriously injured in the crash.
