Truck Driver Rescued From Forth Worth Highway Ramp Accident Scene
Posted on Mar 27, 2011
A truck driver in Fort Worth, Texas, was left dangling from an overpass and scared for his life after a big rig accident caused his vehicle to slam into a highway ramp and partially fall over the edge.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the Texas truck accident occurred when the big rig struck a Honda on an Interstate 20 ramp headed toward I-35W. The collision, which took place at around four in the morning on March 24, left the Honda pinned against the ramp’s guard rail and left the 18-wheeler half-dangling over the flyover ramp, including the entire cab of the truck.
The Fort Worth Fire Department responded to the truck accident. With the help of a 50-foot ladder and a number of safety harnesses, the emergency responders were able to reach the truck driver and pull him to safety. After the truck driver was rescue, the firefighters turned their attention to the driver and passenger trapped in the Honda between the flyover barrier and the truck, which was carrying an empty water tank. After nearly three hours, both people were pulled from the car and given medical attention. The truck driver and the two Honda passengers only suffered non-life-threatening injuries – a detail that a spokesperson for the Fort Worth Fire Department called a miracle.
Crews are still working on removing the truck and other debris from the truck accident scene, and the collision is still under investigation.
