Two Killed, Two Injured In I-45 Wrong Way Crash In Dallas

Posted on Mar 26, 2011

According to local news sources and Dallas Police, two people were killed and two others were seriously injured after a pickup truck driver drove the wrong way down Interstate 45 in Dallas and slammed into an oncoming car head on.

The accident took place at 2:30 a.m. on Friday morning in the northbound lanes of I-45 near the intersection of Loop 12. A man in a pickup truck, identified as Joseph Macias, was driving southbound the wrong way on the street when it struck a small passenger car carrying three people. The driver of the car that was hit and the person in the passenger seat were killed while a third person in the car and Macias himself was seriously injured.

The authorities reported that 35-year-old Luis Alvarado of Denton, was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident while 31-year-old Jose Aguiluz-Coreas died of his injures later that night at a nearby hospital.

While the Texas car crash is still under investigation, and while police have not yet released the results of a blood alcohol test, they do believe that drinking and driving was a factor in this wrong way interstate crash. At this time it is unclear where Macias was before he got into his car or where he entered the northbound lanes of the interstate.

Interstate 45 was closed for several hours in the wake of the crash but reopened before the morning commute.
