Two freshmen Texas A&M students were killed in a three-vehicle car accident on Texas 21 on Thursday, May 13. The two 18-year-old students, both from Texas, were returning from a post-exams river trip to College Station when the TX car crash occurred.
According to Texas state police, the two men, Tanner Lloyd Ferris of Vidor and Nathan Shearod, were riding in a Jeep Wrangler about seven miles away from Bastrop eastbound on Texas 21 when their car struck a car that was slowing down to turn onto Travis Road. The crash occurred at 5:15 PM. After rear-ending the car, the jeep spun around and was rear-ended by a third vehicle traveling west. The Wrangler caught on fire and both young men died at the scene of the accident.
Both students played saxophone in the The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band and were from San Antonio. Both had just completed their first year in college. Already in the days after the accident, fellow students, friends, and family members left messages on the boys’ Facebook pages.
A third man, 52-year-old John Hopkins, who was driving the final car involved in the crash, suffered from facial lacerations and a broken leg. He was transported to Brackenridge Hospital for treatment.
The Texas car accident is still under investigation. Police are not sure if speeding or reckless driving was involved with the crash.
