Van Rollover Sends 12 To Hospital In The Colony, Texas

Posted on Aug 28, 2011

A Friday afternoon traffic accident in The Colony, Texas, left three people seriously injured and nine others with non-life-threatening injuries. The two-vehicle accident, which involved a passenger van and a sports utility vehicle, took place at the intersection of Highway 121 and Paige Road.

According to local authorities and the Colony Leader, both the SUV and the van were in the two left turn lanes on highway 121 southbound. However, when the traffic light turned green, the van proceeded forward while the SUV made the legal left turn. The van rolled, ejecting one of its six passengers. It is not clear how many passengers in the two vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Colony Police Department reported that there were six people in each vehicle and that children were involved in the accident, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Seven different ambulances took the injury victims to three area hospitals, where three people are still listed in critical condition. The van and SUV accident victims are currently at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and Plano Presbyterian and Plano Medical Center, both in Plano.

Officials say that they don’t believe that charges will be filed at this time, though the Texas traffic accident is still under investigation.
