Wichita Falls Senior Graduates After Car Accident Head Injury

Posted on May 31, 2011

Six months following a serious car accident and traumatic brain injury, Chase Curry’s parents weren’t sure what their son’s future would look like. But six months after the accident, Curry will walk on his own to collect his high school diploma. He has a 4.0 grade point average.

Curry, a senior at Rider High School, Doesn’t remember any of December or January of last year. He spent that time at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, where he struggled for his life after a Thanksgiving Day car accident that left him with broken bones and a severe head injury. He lost forty pounds, required multiple surgeries, and wasn’t able to walk. Suddenly, his dream for his senior year – playing competitive tennis and joining his classmates at dances and events – seemed impossible.

To everyone’s surprise and delight, the young man recovered well, returning to Wichita Falls to see friends and finally returning to school by the spring to catch up with school work and graduate with his own class. Of course he still struggles with some of the consequences of a brain injury: he gets tired faster than other kids and has double vision. His friends and family also say that his personality is different – he talks more and is less shy.
