The incident took place on Interstate 10 EB near mile marker 840 at around 4:30 p.m. It was reported that a Chevrolet Malibu and a GMC Yukon SUV were traveling east when both vehicles hydroplaned. A Volvo tractor semi-trailer was traveling at a high rate of speed when it also left the roadway and hit both vehicles.
The driver and passenger in the Malibu were transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of sustained injuries. No other injuries were reported in the accident.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Texas 18-Wheeler Crashes
Heavy commercial vehicles having a gross vehicle weight of more than 10,000 pounds are known as semi-trucks. The movement of cargo is their primary function, and the average passenger car engine is up to six times smaller in terms of size, weight, and horsepower than a semi-truck engine. When loaded, a semi-truck can weigh up to 40 tons, or 80,000 pounds.
In any large city, semi-trucks play a crucial role in the transportation industry, but they are also frequently involved in the most catastrophic accidents. These crashes cause a lot of injuries and fatalities each year. The terrible thing is that most of these collisions could be avoided if semi-truck drivers, trucking firms, cargo loading firms, third-party brokers, tire and truck component manufacturers, and maintenance mechanics adhered to the guidelines established by the FMCSA and state agencies.
