When emergency personnel arrived, they found two victims with serious injuries. Local reports indicated that 40-year-old Neecy Reyna of Smyer was driving a car when they attempted to leave a business off the highway. Reyna entered the path of an oncoming pickup truck, and the two vehicles collided.
Both Reyna and their passenger, later identified as 44-year-old Santa Cruz Reyna Jr., also from Smyer, suffered serious injuries. Both were transported to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock for treatment. Neecy later succumbed to their injuries.
The driver of the pickup was treated at the scene by attending medical personnel. No additional information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is in progress.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
