Big Spring, TX (March 26, 2020) – On Monday, March 23, authorities were called to the scene of a three-vehicle collision on Farm to Market Road 700. Reports indicate that at around 8:30 a.m., a 2017 Honda was pulled over on the side of the road with a DPS Trooper patrol vehicle.
The driver of the Honda, who was identified as John Lyons, exited his vehicle to speak with the trooper. As the two men stood alongside the roadway, a Ford crashed into the Honda and then struck the patrol car. Lyons, who was in the path of the Ford, was struck.
Lyons was critically injured and rushed to Scenic Mountain Medical Center where he was declared deceased.
The driver of the Ford was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
We would like to offer our condolences to the family of John Lyons at this time.
