Houston, TX (August 2, 2020) – At approximately 1:40 a.m., on August 2, a Harris County Deputy Sheriff’s Office Deputy was attempting to pull over a teenage driver for a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield. As a result, a high-speed chase pursued on the Katy Freeway.
After some distance, the teenage driver made a U-turn near Greenhouse Road and started to travel east back onto the feeder road. As the suspect attempted to reenter the Freeway, there was a second vehicle in front of him. The suspect driver around the vehicle in front of him, but the deputy did not see the vehicle. As a result, the deputy rear-ended the vehicle, which was later identified as a rideshare vehicle. The impact of the collision sent both vehicles off the road where they crashed into a tree.
The driver of the rideshare vehicle was transported to an area hospital where he was declared deceased. A passenger in the vehicle was treated for minor injuries. The deputy was transported to an area hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. The suspect was later apprehended by an off-duty officer. At this time, the incident remains under investigation with the Harris County Vehicular Crimes Division.
