The accident occurred just before 7:00 p.m. on Highway 114 (SH 114) at South County Line Road, near the Denton-Wise County line.

According to reports, a rock hauler (dump truck) traveling eastbound on 114 veered into the westbound lanes. An 18-wheeler traveling westbound attempted to take evasive action, but was struck. The rock hauling semi truck then struck two additional vehicles, including a Chevrolet Tahoe and Jamie Richardson’s Hyundai Elantra.

Jamie Richardson, of Rhome, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the rock hauler, 60-year-old David McMinn, was transported by air ambulance (CareFlite) to JPS Hospital (John Peter Smith Hospital) in Fort Worth in unknown condition. Two other drivers (41-year-old Gaylon Presson of Boyd, and 49-year-old Richard Grady of Del Valle) were treated at the scene and released.
