CONWAY, TX (05/31/2015) — The lives of 25-year-old Vanessa Cummings, 24-year-old Brandon Cummings, and 10-month-old Dawson Chase Cummings came to an end after the driver of an 18-wheeler veered into oncoming lanes and struck their car on Sunday evening.
According to reports, Vanessa Cummings was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on Interstate 40, when the driver of a 2012 Peterbilt 18-wheeler crossed into oncoming traffic, striking the Equinox head-on at about 7:15 p.m. just 8.6 miles west of Conway. The semi-truck then continued across the road, through a fence, and into a field before coming to a stop.
All three occupants of the Equinox were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The victims included:
- Vanessa Cummings, 25, of Lakewood, WA
- Brandon Joshua Cummings, 24, of Lakewood, WA
- Dawson Chase Cummings, 10 months, of Lakewood, WA
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the 18-wheeler truck, 62-year-old Jorge Alberto Contreras (of Pacoima, CA), may have had a medical episode just before the accident. Contreras was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo to be treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Would you please tell me if you have any pictures of the Equinox. The family would be interested.

Hi Gloria, unfortunately I could not find any photos of the accident scene, but I would recommend the family (or their attorney) submit an open records request in order to obtain the photos taken by police and investigators.
