Dallas Cowboy teammates Joshua Brent and Jerry Brown, Jr. had everything to live for. The friends were just starting to see their careers take off when a drunk driving accident ended it all. Brent lost his career; Brown lost his life.
The Irving DUI accident occurred at about 2:21 a.m. on Saturday, December 8. The two men had been partying with teammates and celebrities at a Dallas nightclub. They left the club in Brent’s car, a 2007 Mercedes, and were speeding west on the 1400 block of the East State Highway 114 service road when the car hit the curb and spun out of control. The vehicle overturned, traveled approximately 900 feet and came to a stop in the middle of the road. The car burst into flames and Brent tried to drag Brown from the burning car.
Linebacker Jerry Brown, Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Brown was twenty-five-years-old and expecting his first child.
Brent sustained minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital after failing field sobriety tests.
At the time of the accident, driver and Cowboys lineman Joshua Brent had a blood alcohol level of .018, more than twice the legal limit. In order to reach that blood alcohol level, a 321 pound man would have to drink about 20 drinks in a four-hour period.
Brent was booked into the Irving jail on charges of intoxication manslaughter, a second degree felony. If convicted Brent faces up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The Dallas accident attorneys at the Rasansky Law Firm offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Brown.

Irving Police are looking for a pickup truck and a suspected hit-and-run driver following a bicycle-vehicle collision on February 24th.

According to the Star-Telegram, 50-year-old Ken Hawkins was cycling westbound down Irving Boulevard just after noon when his bike was struck from behind by a pickup truck which then left the scene of the crash.
Authorities say the vehicle was a blue or grey Ford F150 with tinted windows and orange lettering on the back. They are asking anyone with information about the Texas vehicle accident to come forward.
Seven years ago, Hawkins’ pregnant wife was involved in a Joshua traffic accident. Both she and the unborn baby died, leaving Hawkins to raise his son – now seven – alone. Currently, family members are caring for his son, Kennedy, as Ken recovers.
Hawkins was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas where he remains in serious condition. He suffered a traumatic brain injury in the hit-and-run accident and is in a medically induced coma for the time being. It is unclear whether the avid cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The bike accident lawyers at Rasansky Law Firm wish everyone in Hawkins’ family well and wish Ken a swift and complete recovery.

On Wednesday afternoon, a DART maintenance worker reported a car submerged in a canal along the Northwest Highway and Riverside drive. Later that day, emergency responders recovered the bodies of three people: 41-year-old Dallas attorney Ron Eddins, 23-year-old Kenny Lark, and 21-year-old Kaat Debeuckelaer, a University of Texas student.
A medical examination revealed that all three had been the victims of blunt force trauma and that Eddins had drowned.
Irving police are still piecing together the details of what seems to be a fatal Texas car accident. Investigators say that the young couple attended a Dallas Stars game on Tuesday before traveling to Southlake where they met Eddins. The three then made a brief stop at the Men’s Club in Dallas before leaving in Eddins’ Porsche. At just before three in the morning, a resident of the area where the accident took place reported a loud crash to police.
The investigation continues as police work to discover whether speed or intoxication were factors in the late-night crash. Toxicology results have not yet been reported.
The Texas wrongful death lawyers at Rasansky Law Firm send their condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the three accident victims.

A Parker County Chief Constable was struck by a car and seriously injured while off-duty and directing traffic in Irving early on Saturday morning. The accident took place a few minutes before 7 a.m. at the intersection of Loop 12 and State Highway 114 near the old Texas Stadium where road construction was taking place.
According to local news reports, 52-year-old Lowell Moss was rushed by ambulance to a Dallas hospital where he remains in critical condition from the car accident. He is surrounded by family and has responded to a few simple command while drifting in and out of consciousness. One of his sons has flown home from Afghanistan to be with his father.
The driver who hit Moss stayed at the scene of the car wreck and cooperated with police. Authorities do not believe speed or alcohol were components in the crash – and it is still unclear why the accident took place or how exactly the accident happened.

According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, a Dallas man was struck and killed while attempting to cross Airport Freeway in Irving, Texas late on Friday night.
The man, 36-year-old Chad Allbritton, ran in front of a car in the westbound lane of the highway while trying to cross the street near the old Texas Stadium. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene of the pedestrian accident.
Irving Police say that the driver, who immediately pulled over and called for help, was not at fault for the fatal pedestrian accident and that no charges will be filed and no citations will be given. Police are still unsure of why Allbritton was trying to cross the busy street or if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Because of the high speed of the vehicles, it is extremely dangerous to cross a multi-lane highway, especially at night.

The two workers seriously injured in the Dallas Cowboys practice structure collapse last May will receive $34 million from two different companies that were affiliated with the property that blew down. Both companies, Blue Star Development Co. and Cowboys Center Ltd., are owned by Jerry Jones.
The accident took place in the spring of 2009, in Irving, Texas, when a windstorm blew down a structure where the Cowboys were practicing for the new season. The collapsed structure paralyzed scouting assistant Richard Behm and broke the neck of special teams coach Joe DeCamillis. Both men are still employed by the Dallas Cowboys. Behm and his family will receive $24 million from the Cowboys, while DeCamillis and his family will receive almost ten million dollars.
A settlement was reached against the manufacturer of the building, which has faced a number of similar lawsuits in the past when other structures they built collapsed under similar conditions. The details of that settlement, with Summit Structures L.L.C. of Allentown, Pa., and its parent, Cover-All Building Systems Inc., have remained private.
The law firm that represented Behm and DeCamillis said that their clients are doing well under the circumstances and that the settlements will help them move forward and bring closure after the tragic accident. He also said that the Cowboys have treated the two men like family, both before and after their accident and injuries.

Speed and alcohol were both factors in a fatal Irving, Texas, car accident – an accident that has resulted in intoxicated manslaughter charges for the driver of a pickup truck.
According to the Star-Telegram, 29-year-old Justin Jones was driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding on Texas 114 in Irving when he lost control of his vehicle. The man crossed three lanes of traffic before hitting an obstruction and going airborne. His vehicle then struck a FedEx truck also on Texas 114, killing the driver, 27-year-old Khaled Aboushaaban. Jones’ car hit the eastbound FedEx truck head-on and at cab level and Aboushaaban was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Jones was charged with manslaughter while recovering from serious injuries at Dallas’ Parkland Memorial Hospital. The vehicle accident took place on Monday, July 12 at around 7 PM.
