Beaumont, TX - Police Officer Killed in Car Accident on US-96

Beaumont, TX (August 10, 2020) – One person lost their life and a second victim was seriously injured in an auto accident reported early Sunday morning. Just after 2:30 a.m., on August 9, the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene of a crash on US Highway 96.

Reports provided by authorities show that a Ford Mustang was traveling the wrong way on the US Highway 96 when it crashed into a police cruiser occupied by two Beaumont Police Officers. One officer was fatally injured in the accident. The victim was declared deceased at the scene of the crash. The second officer, as well as the driver of the Mustang, were both seriously injured. Both victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment immediately following the crash.
